FAQs for career changers

Our career change clients come from a variety of different professional backgrounds and experience. You might be a full-time parent returning to work, or perhaps you are looking for a change and need help finding the right career. Our impartial decision making service can guide you in choosing the right path for your future.
The Morrisby Profile is completed entirely online. Arrangements for testing should be made through a Morrisby Certified career adviser. A post-testing interview will assist you to synthesise your results, professional experience, qualifications, and personal situation.
When you arrange your Morrisby Profile, you will receive access to all the Morrisby assessments plus a follow-up careers interview to receive guidance from a professional careers adviser (the duration of these interviews is determined by the provider but are typically 60 minutes). From our experience, we understand the value in career changers discussing their results, career journey to date, challenges/obstacles and thoughts with a careers professional. You will also receive a ‘login for life’ allowing you to access your account for as long as you need to.
A Morrisby Profile is $50 AUD. This is generally separate from the cost of meeting with a careers adviser as they set their own rates.
In most cases, the interview with your careers adviser is the most valuable forum for discussing how your professional and work based qualifications, skills and experience may impact your future career, and contribute towards your strong profile in the jobs market.
It takes about 1 hour 40 minutes to complete all of the assessments, but they do not have to be done all in one session.
Lifetime access to results is provided – as long as you login to Morrisby at least every 5 years. You can continue researching careers, recomplete some questionnaires and complete further questionnaires. The interface is interactive and powerful without being directive or limiting the options suggested.
Sometimes people do not relate to their results. If this is the case then speak to your career adviser about this. Sometimes assessments need to be recompleted with a different mindset (which is free of charge) or perhaps the results need to be discussed more fully and placed in context.
A 2019 survey with almost 5,000 respondents found that when asked, "My assessment results identified my aptitudes, interests, and personality", students responded as follows:
46% strongly agreed,
49% agreed,
3% disagreed,
2% strongly disagreed.
Yes, to some extent. You can change the default settings in the system to weight the impact of Aptitudes, Interests, and Personality differently when generating a list of career suggestions. You can change the default academic attainment levels to see how a different level of education generates a different range of careers.
You can also approach the career interest questionnaire with a mindset focused on a specific career, making it more likely that this career is suggested.
Importantly, the Morrisby Profile focuses on the pattern of aptitude scores to suggest a direction of strengths or natural abilities. This information cannot be led, so forms an objective view.
The Morrisby Profile does not tell you what you should do. It identifies a range of careers and study areas which suit a blend of your aptitudes, interests, and personality – then provides you with the tools to explore and refine the list of suggestions based on a range of factors including academic attainment.
These results are one view of a person and career guidance is a holistic process. The results support career decision-making alongside other available information, and should be used as a guide and discussion tool only.
